आता है याद मुझको

आता है याद मुझको गुज़रा हुआ ज़माना
वोह बाग़ की बहारें वोह साब का चह-चहाना

memories of days gone by come back to me
that garden in spring, all that chitter chatter

आज़ादियाँ कहाँ वोह अब अपने घोंसले की
अपनी खुशी से आना अपनी ख़ुशी से जाना

where is that freedom of my nest now
that coming and going as one pleased

लगती हैं चोट दिल पर, आता है याद जिस दम
शबनम के आंसुओं पर कलियों का मुस्कुराना

it hurts my heart when i so recall
the petals glowing with those tears of dew

वो प्यारी प्यारी सूरत, वोह कामीनी सी मूरत
आबाद जिस के दम से था मेरा आशियाना

that lovely face, that idol
by which my whole world was alive

  1. Good translation.. is that yours? you should start writing some of these on your own.

  3. Ya... possibly because you are so near home that you don't miss it as much. This song always reminds me of home, and my carefree days there.

  4. No.. my part of the translation effort is putting together multiple google searches :)

Writing some of my own... I am just able to make time to read them :)

  5. Or maybe that Sagar, you are just a hardcore Faiz fan :o)

  6. Indeed... That truly could be the case... U seem to have turned me into an utter Faiz fan too! :-O. Thinking of it, the demand for the blog-archive list was indeed for reaching previous posts of Faiz & Tina... :-)

  7. :-)
Some more 'features' for you... check out the Labels. Though Faiz's poetry doesnt help much in wooing the fairer sex...be warned ;)

  8. Ah! A whole label dedicated to Faiz!! Speaks volumes :-).
Oh, Faiz poetry doesn't help 'there'? But 'Bahar Aai' seemed to work wonders ;-) :-D

  9. Perhaps the thing I like about Faiz is that he isn't romantic in love... he is a romantic, but is in the real world. If that makes any sense... I wish I could ever find his poems all transcribed in hindi and well translated somewhere.
